Know when you are vulnerable

You claim an area by leaving your territory and reconnecting a loop to it. While outside, the trail is exposed and can be cut. Returning safely converts the enclosed area into territory. The important decision is therefore not just how far you can travel, but how long the route remains vulnerable.

Plan the return before leaving

1. Choose a nearby landing point. Know where the loop will reconnect before you start drawing it.
2. Inspect traffic. Avoid beginning a large excursion beside an opponent with easy access to your trail.
3. Prefer manageable additions. Several smaller, deliberate expansions can be easier to evaluate than one ambitious sweep.
4. Reassess mid-route. If conditions change, a smaller completed loop may be better than the original plan.

A simple risk exercise

Play a few attempts with a self-imposed rule: every new loop must have a return point you can name before leaving home. After losing, ask whether the failure came from the outbound path, the time spent exposed or the reconnecting approach. This does not guarantee survival, but it turns a vague ‘too greedy’ mistake into a specific route decision you can change.

Do not assume every opponent is human
